SPL History: Surviving Wegner LLP

Paying Consulting Fees to Wegner LLP a Bad Idea

The Sports Picks League premiered on the web June 1, 1996 hosted by Madison (WI) Newspapers. In January 1997, SPL moved hosting operations to a small tech firm to construct a data base that did an outstanding job providing contests for thousands of players.

Unfortunately, the tech firm was acquired by Wegner LLP, CPAs & Consultants who had no interest in our website (we weren't making enough money to be a long-term client, and self-serving accountants need money). The accountants' approach to SPL was to empty our wallet and max our credit cards. Because of bad advice, inefficient operation, and incredibly high costs in the 1999-2000 season, SPL was forced to close for the 2000-2001 season. Paying consulting fees to Wegner & Associates for business advice was foolish- "Your ignorance about how to do things better, is my profit." -Managing Partner, Wegner LLP, CPAs & Consultants.

In June & July 2006, we received letters from a law firm representing Wegner LLP demanding that we remove the above alleged 'defamatory' comments or face legal action because Wegner had 'absolutely no involvement' with SPL. Too bad for Wegner CPAs, we are no longer buying their bald lies. Sixteen months of dishonesty was enough. The first day under the Wegner roof, we were suggestive-sold an expensive enhancement to our obsolescent non-warrantied data base "to save money in the long run." Not only did we pay consulting fees for this unconscionable advice, we were not offered technology (provided to other corporate clients) that would have saved thousands of dollars in costs paid to Wegner. Several Wegner employees volunteered to 'partner' with SPL at a 50% commission on revenue to keep the contests going after the financial devastation. The law firm describes us as being 'bitter' about our Wegner experience.
